Heading to beautiful Jackson Hole? In this post I cover everything you need to know about summer in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Read on for everything you need to know about how to get there, the best places to stay, things to do, where to eat and more!
How to Get to Jackson Hole
Jackson Hole Airport is located in Grand Teton National Park, less than a 15-minute drive to and from the town of Jackson, Wyoming. There are multiple airline options and direct flights from major cities such as Newark, Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Denver and Seattle.
You DO need to rent a car if you want to explore the region to its fullest. While some shuttle and ride share services are available, you’ll most likely want your own transportation. This will allow you to take the short drive between your hotel and Grand Teton National Park; the one hour 15 minute drive to Yellowstone National Park; or any other activities you have planned during your stay.

If you’re someone who enjoys multiple dining and shopping options within walking distance, consider staying in the town of Jackson. Jackson is incredibly walkable, with a historic town square and small-town feel. If you prefer to be surrounded by mountains and further away from the city lights, Teton Village or beyond might be perfect for you.
Best Things to Do in Jackson Hole in the Summer
There’s a LOT to do in the area, including two national parks, hiking, shopping, and more. Here are a few of my favorite activities:
Visit Grand Teton National Park
Yellowstone, located one hour and 15 minutes north of Jackson, gets a lot of attention but don’t overlook Grand Teton National Park. You can easily spend several days exploring this park, set against the backdrop of the spectacular Teton Range, pictured above.
I loved the Jenny Lake trail in Grand Teton National Park. This adventure includes taking a shuttle boat across the lake and hiking to landmarks such as Hidden Falls and Inspiration Point. You can find more information, plus bear and wildlife safety information, here.
Take a Wildlife Safari
This one is on my list for next time: a wildlife safari with a local professional, who can help you safely view and understand the local ecosystem. For more information, see Jackson Hole Wildlife Safaris.
Visit Yellowstone National Park
Visiting Yellowstone is a great day trip from Jackson Hole. You can easily spend several full days in the park. Top attractions include Old Faithful; Grand Prismatic Springs, one of the largest hot springs on earth; and the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone, the waterfall pictured a few images above. You can find more information on Yellowstone National Park here.
Enjoy Incredible Alpine Views
A gondola ride at Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is typically $50 per adult, but from June 15 – September 8, 2024, adults can enjoy an evening gondola ride for $18; children’s tickets are $12. Once at the top, you can enjoy spectacular views of the region paired with dinner at Piste Mountain Bistro and/or drinks at The Deck. Click here for more information, to purchase tickets, or for a full list of closures (closed on a handful of dates as well as every Friday and Saturday.)
Shop for Art, Western Wear & More
There are a number of shops around Jackson’s town square and in Teton Village. For art, visit A RARE Gallery in the town of Jackson, featuring modern sculpture, photography and paintings. Another one not to miss is Wilcox Gallery, with an outstanding collection of Western art, also in Jackson.
For high-end Western wear, check out Kemo Sabe, featuring Kemo Sabe-branded hats and cowboy boots alongside well-known brands such as Old Gringo. You’ll also find vintage luxury handbags, vintage and fine jewelry, sneakers and more.
Where to Eat and Drink in Jackson Hole
One of my favorite places in the world is Persephone Bakery, a French-inspired, James Beard Semi-Finalist bakery serving coffee, pastries, breakfast and lunch. Don’t miss this gem, even if it’s a quick stop in to grab a coffee!
For lunch or dinner, visit FIGS in Hotel Jackson, serving Lebanese-Mediterranean cuisine; voted top 10% of restaurants worldwide by TripAdvisor.
For after-dinner drinks, head to The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar in downtown Jackson, an iconic staple.
